BMW R 120 G/S [2004-2012] - GR86 Kit

Complete conversion kit in classic G/S style

The GR86 Kit fundamentally redesigns the BMW R 1200 GS and draws on the distinctive styling of classic G/S models. The comfort and handling of the base motorcycle are retained, while the replacement parts weigh a total of 6,4 kg less than the corresponding original parts. The motorcycle can later be returned to its original configuration because the original parts are not modified.

Concept and Installation

Some intentionally retained original parts must be transferred from the motorcycle. Depending on the assembly, these include original rubber elements, clips and mounting parts, among other components.

Fairing and Seat

• Tank covers: Lightweight covers made from matte special resin with carbon fiber reinforcements, a white and red finish, graphics and transparent protection. Holes, screws, rubber parts, rear mount and machined bushings for the front mounting points are included. The right cover can be quickly removed for air filter maintenance.
• Seat: Black synthetic leather seat with high-frequency printed seating areas and hand-finished side stitching in cotton thread. The supplied frame uses the original mounting points; the lock and vehicle key are retained.
• Side panels: Very lightweight white and red side panels with graphics and transparent protection. Fasteners, rubber parts, screws and transparent protective film for the frame are included.
• Side covers: Lightweight covers with an aluminum-colored matte surface, inserts and mounting screws.
• Tank strap: Full-grain leather handmade in Italy and stitched with nylon thread. It covers the connection between the tank covers and allows optional accessories to be attached.

Fenders, Rear and Luggage Rack

• Rear fender: Lightweight version in red with holes for case frames. The taillight, lamp and wiring compatible with the original connector are integrated, so no modification of the electrical system is required.
• Front fender: Red version with lines inspired by the GS models of the 1980s. In this version, it is mounted low in the original position.
• Luggage rack: Steel construction with durable powder coating, aluminum spacers and practical passenger grab handles. It is installed using the original screws.

The original Vario plastic case mounts cannot be installed directly on the kit. The original Vario plastic cases can be used with a Unit Garage case frame available separately. Original ADV aluminum cases with metal frames are also intended for the converted configuration. The original R 1200 GS logo on the rear fender is not included.

Front, Lighting and Cockpit Mount

• Handlebar risers: CNC-machined from solid aluminum alloy with an anodized finish. They attach to the original mounting points and allow the headlight frame to be installed without changing the original position of the handlebars and upper riser section.
• Headlight: Adjustable lighting unit from the R 1200 R model with included H11 lamps. The wiring has a connector compatible with the original system.
• Headlight frame: Powder-coated steel construction for mounting the headlight, turn signals, high fender and optional fairing. Three rubber elements from the original frame are reused for the instrument panel.
• Windshield: Red ABS version with a transparent surface, inspired by the R 80 GS PD. It provides aerodynamic protection, has a diameter of 185 mm and is supplied with mounting brackets.

Tank, Engine and Radiator Construction

• Fuel tank mounts: Robust powder-coated steel mounts replace the original subframe for the headlight, radiator and tank. They use the same mounting points and accommodate the original rubber elements.
• Crash bar and engine guard: Powder-coated steel construction with spacer bushings and screws. It allows the radiator to be mounted on the side and provides additional protection in off-road falls. Most maintenance work can be performed without removing the bar.
• Oil cooler mount: Powder-coated steel mount that also serves as a radiator guard. It is designed for attachment to the crash bar and to accommodate the original rubber parts and bushings.
• Oil cooler: Lightweight, highly efficient aluminum finned cooler.
• Oil line set: Connecting lines for positioning the oil cooler on the right side of the crash bar. Steel clamps, connectors and upper copper seals are included; the lower left connection remains original.

Important Installation Notes

The motorcycle's three original upper M5 clips are used with the supplied M5 × 12 mm button-head screws to connect the two tank covers. The original pointed M5 screws must not be used at this point, as they may damage the tank. The kit is continuously being developed in detail; images may therefore show an earlier version.
